I believe that it is important that I communicate what I actually wish to transmit through this installation :&lt;br /&gt;Today the&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; senses&lt;/span&gt; are &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;weakened&lt;/span&gt; and &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;lacerated&lt;/span&gt; because technology and progress make all processes dramatically explicit.&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Senses are neutralized and lose their capacity to discriminate&lt;/span&gt;.We need to reflect on that…and maybe work on ourselves!&lt;br /&gt;This interactive polisensorial&lt;span style="color: #6600cc;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://alikione.blogspot.com/2006/10/lettera-marco-ongaro-sul-installazione.html" style="color: #6600cc;" target="_blank"&gt;installation&lt;/a&gt; was set in a church. Upon entering the church, you are immersed immediately and find yourself viewing  a &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;court metrage&lt;/span&gt; by Ruben Garbellini called Breve Sogno projected onto the Choir. The reason why I decided to project the film on the crucifix,was because I meant to involve "Christ"  in our worldly tormented life as well as in the life of the protagonists in the film. I specifically chose&lt;i&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;b&gt;John Adams&lt;/b&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;'&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;“&lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;The Grand Pianola Music&lt;/i&gt;”&lt;/b&gt;&lt;i&gt; &lt;/i&gt;as the background soundtrack, with its syncopated rhythm to emphasise the dramatic context of our lives today, and that of the film's protagonists, in particular. I purposely added a pink filter on the film projection in order to focus on life's duality "&lt;span style="color: #cc33cc;"&gt;la vie en rose&lt;/span&gt;" on the one hand, and the contrasting theme of the plot which is sad. My intention was to emphasise that, despite life’s solicitation, every individual can dream of  some "vie en rose"! With the film's soundtrack  muted, the spectator is directly exposed to the feature film's dramatic tone which is distinctly attenuated by the pink filter representing “&lt;i style="color: #cc33cc;"&gt;la vie en rose&lt;/i&gt;”.&lt;a href="http://www.aliki.info/images/P1010025.jpg"&gt;&lt;img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.aliki.info/images/thumbs/P1010025.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 5px 10px 5px 0px;" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another visual impact comes immediately from the soft white wall that surrounds the choir thus creating an added sense of privacy and at the same time records the idea of the confessional zone. I wanted to draw attention on that instant of expectation, meditation that precedes confession. A momentous" alone with oneself and one’s thoughts". The intention was to provoke moments of reflection on the part of the visitor without any kind of technological interference.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: #cc33cc;"&gt;The atmosphere of the church left semi-dark with dimmed LED lights. The visitor  proceeds to find out what is behind the white (RGB LED lit) wall. There behind that wall an experience awaits to be lived. &lt;/span&gt;The moment the visitor sets foot on the orange-color resin platform, the LED lights embedded in the platform light up and trigger a dialogue on the provided headphones.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;In this dialogue a man and a woman&lt;span style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';"&gt; simulate intimacy&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;. At the end of their three-minute conversation we find out that they have met each other &lt;b&gt;only twenty minutes ago&lt;/b&gt;…  –&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div id="sound-dialog-tioli"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"&gt;Get the Flash Player&lt;/a&gt; (real clover scent diffused through a remote controlled compressed air system), to the&lt;span style="color: #666600;"&gt; &lt;span style="color: #009900;"&gt;tactile&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; and &lt;span style="color: #ff6600;"&gt;auditory&lt;/span&gt;.In this &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;sensorium&lt;/span&gt;- &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;- the consumed  senses-represented by five straps of skin textured and pigmented silicon—mask partially the view of the real world of relationships, that of the protagonists in the film of which the spectator hears the authentic dialogue this time&lt;/span&gt; The impact of new technology has reshuffled the established hierarchy of the senses and radically changed people's lives, and artists are responding to this epochal shift. The LVAC staff has collaborated with an international team of curators and advisors to develop the exhibition and related publication. The exhibition will include several large commissions. È l’effetto dell’installazione "Take it or leave it", creata da Aliki, artista dalle complesse origini culturali, tra l’Iran e la Russia, sulle cui radici si innestano rami francesi, inglesi e nordamericani. Un’installazione inaugurata venerdì, con una presentazione di Marco Ongaro, e aperta al pubblico ancora stasera dalle 19 alle 21 nella piccola chiesa di San Pietro in Archivolto, di fianco al Duomo. Aliki, che da tempo ha scelto Verona come città di residenza, si era già cimentata con ambientazioni avvolgenti cariche di colori, luci e odori, nelle quali poter godere di particolari esperienze dolci e intense. Ora il suo linguaggio si è fatto più complesso e sofisticato, più astratto, denso di sfasature temporali e capace di catturare in profondità chi si presta a vivere l’esperienza che l’autrice offre. &lt;a href="http://www.aliki.info/images/DSC01274.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"&gt;&lt;img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.aliki.info/images/thumbs/DSC01274.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 5px 10px 5px 0px;" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;"Take it or leave it" allude alla dicotomia tra l’immediatezza, a cui siamo continuamente forzati da una società abituata ad avere tutto sempre automatizzato o telecomandato, e la capacità, sempre più rara, alla rinuncia. Rinunciare ha una valenza sia negativa che positiva, spiega &lt;span style="color: #a64d79;"&gt;Aliki&lt;/span&gt;: &lt;br /&gt;&lt;blockquote dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px;"&gt;Oggi vorremmo sempre ottenere soddisfazione subito, nell’immediatezza, cosa talora impossibile. I sensi sono violentati e soffrono, sono a pezzi, non sappiamo più distinguere, discernere, discriminare, darci il tempo di scegliere, accettare o anche rifiutare. Questa “&lt;em&gt;azione artistica&lt;/em&gt;” coinvolge gli spettatori e li constringe a confrontarsi sulle quello degli affetti. &amp;nbsp;Aliki, che e designer e artista di formazione cosmopolita, nata a Teheran, vissuta a Parigi, ha studiato a New York, Londra e Sheffield, ha scelto Verona come patria d’elezione. &lt;br /&gt;L’evento e cosi concepito: gli spettatori-attori sono condotti ad una piattaforma situata al centro della chiesa, dove ascoltono un dialogo tra un attore e un attrice, mentre sull’abside verranno proiettate delle immagini. In sincronia con queste azioni, musica e profumi completano un’atmosfera che vorrebbe coinvolgere i sensi nella loro totalita. Ogni intervento si concludera con un dialogo tra l’artista e il suo pubblico. Si tratta solo d&amp;rsquo;amore, infine, di gelosia, di passione. Della ricerca dell&amp;rsquo;amore, della sua sconfitta, dell&amp;rsquo;odore che lascia sulla porta. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Amami o lasciami. Prendere lasciare. Amalo o lascialo, questo sorriso di seta. Oppure bacialo e salutalo per riprendere il cammino. In posizione ferma, tra rilievi e profumi, la Luce scende su di te e non te ne accorgi. L&amp;rsquo;arte pare mescolarsi al mondo ma ne rimane al di fuori, come l&amp;rsquo;acqua non si unisce all&amp;rsquo;olio. Forse perché non è dentro al mondo che va cercata, ma sulla sua superficie. Vola sopra i tetti delle case in cui viene partorita ed è là che la ritrovi col pensiero ogni volta che la pioggia cerca di riportarla a terra. Ci si rifugia in chiesa per il nubifragio, come in porto per il naufragio. A cinque a cinque i sensi si rimescolano nel tentativo di raggiungere il sesto. E il sesto è la Visione. Avulsa dal tempo e dallo spazio e da essi indipendente.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;La Visione è solitaria e appare per propria volontà, è figlia dell&amp;rsquo;ispirazione e dall&amp;rsquo;ispirazione è mossa. Se la lasci sfuggire difficilmente la ritrovi. Prendila o lasciala, ma sappi che se l&amp;rsquo;ami non la perdi. Generazioni di artisti l&amp;rsquo;hanno inseguita, blandita, corteggiata, solo pochi hanno giaciuto con lei. La Visione sa essere tattile, sonora e olfattiva, ha un gusto bilanciato d&amp;rsquo;immortalità. renunciation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;In this new century sacrifices and rejections are, perhaps, disappearing as values since the wish for strong emotions – remote-controlled and rapid – leave no space for renunciation.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Today we always want immediate satisfaction, straight away, something which is often just not possible. The senses are violated and under attack, in pieces, and we no longer know how to distinguish or discriminate, how to have the time to choose, accept, or even to say no. The force of renunciation disappears and this weakens us. In my installation “Take it or leave it” these are the values I dispute. Quello che vuoi lo vuoi adesso? Allora lascia perdere, perché adesso non ce l'ho.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/blockquote&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Coccole da reality show. Obbligate, spiate, consapevolmente trasmesse e registrate. Baciare o combaciare? Coccole imposte, comandate o telecomandate. Coccole richieste con ricatti sottili. Ne fai a me e io ne faccio a te. Baciare, sì, ma combaciare? Quando e come combaciare?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Ti servono adesso e io adesso non le ho. Le vorrei, ma non posso costringerti. Le coccole non possono essere imposte, non sono imponibili come un capitale qualsiasi. Non combaciamo, tesoro, nei tempi più che nello spazio. Lo spazio, quello l&amp;rsquo;abbiamo saputo piegare al nostro volere. Siamo insieme per questo. Eppure il tempo non lo dominiamo e quando tu sei orizzontale io sono verticale, quando la luce ti cade addosso dall&amp;rsquo;alto, a me arriva dal pavimento e mette in mostra le cose che normalmente nascondo, che non voglio vedere.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.aliki.info/images/takeorleave-01.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.aliki.info/images/thumbs/takeorleave-01.png" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt; &lt;p align="justify"&gt;Non combaciamo nel senso, nei sensi. Volevi intendere qualcosa con quel gesto? Bene, ho capito qualcos&amp;rsquo;altro. Volevi sentirmi sulla pelle? Io invece avevo voglia di ascoltare la tua voce. Volevi vedermi? Io volevo sentire il tuo odore, tenermelo addosso anche molte ore dopo che te n&amp;rsquo;eri andata. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Volevo baciarti, sentire il gusto della tua bocca, respirare il tuo alito. Tu invece volevi parlare, ascoltare della musica, guardare un film. Quando si riesce a combaciare nello spazio, si sbagliano i tempi. Eppure l&amp;rsquo;attimo magico esiste. Quello in cui tutti i cinque sensi, i tuoi più i miei che fanno dieci, si uniscono e aderiscono come i nostri corpi che finalmente hanno trovato il tempo.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Il sesto senso è fuori dal tempo e non ci riguarda. Dobbiamo lasciarlo fuori anche dalle coccole, altrimenti si guarda con gli occhi della mente, si annusa col naso del cervello e si tocca con tutto ciò che si è usato per toccare fin da quando si era usciti da là, dall&amp;rsquo;altro corpo, quello in cui si è stati ospiti per un po&amp;rsquo;. Lasciamolo perdere, il sesto senso: è materia da spirito. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;L&amp;rsquo;attimo magico esiste, ma è un attimo, e quando cerchiamo di ripeterlo appare stanco. Quando cerchiamo di renderlo più vivo, un po&amp;rsquo; si spegne. Va colto quando c&amp;rsquo;è, e va riconosciuto. È straordinario che tra noi ci siano state coccole così meravigliose e spontanee e così a lungo e negli stessi tempi e rispondendo alle stesse esigenze e speranze. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;È stato magnifico. Ma non è ricreabile con un ordine che arriva dall&amp;rsquo;alto. Non lo si può obbligare. Prendere o lasciare. Si combaciava. È stato bello combaciare. Ora ci si potrebbe anche tollerare.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Aliki nasce a Teheran, da padre greco e madre russa, studia a New York, si laurea a Londra e si trasferisce a Parigi. Da un po&amp;rsquo; vive a Verona, ma è appena tornata da una sua mostra a Rotterdam. Che qualcuno provi a individuare con precisione le singole mescolanze che attraversano lei e la sua arte! Un mercato iraniano di spezie in Central Park è un brivido irrealizzabile di questi tempi, eppure è ciò che più le si avvicina. Scardinata da un luogo alla ricerca di coccole o abbracciata indissolubilmente al mondo intero?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p align="justify"&gt;Ci parla di coccole come di un bene concreto e genuino, qualcosa che puoi prendere o lasciare, ma non imporre come una mano appoggiata su qualcuno "per sbaglio" in autobus, la proverbiale "mano morta" che finge casualità per divenire aperta intenzione se solo le viene offerto uno spiraglio di accettazione. Con le sue installazioni parla di consapevolezza e tolleranza. È l&amp;rsquo;amore che vogliamo, non costringiamolo ad essere qualcosa d&amp;rsquo;indifferente, stanco, ripetitivo, obbligatorio o esibizionistico. Non costringiamolo nelle forme in cui pensavamo di desiderarlo. È a qualcun altro che lo stiamo chiedendo. È a qualcun altro che lo stiamo offrendo. Spices give their contribution to the taste of elements and also to the taste of life, by making life more intense with a pinch of extra feeling, intensifying the pleasures of taste and smell…&lt;br /&gt;As with all spices, saffron yellow has, as a result of its attributes, an important impact on our senses because it influences our being with further repercussions on our soul, on our humour. The plant itself, with all its qualities, imparts well-being, as is often mentioned by Omar Khayyam in poems that often deal with hedonism, Epicureanism…&lt;br /&gt;Strangely enough all colours are to be found in spices…&lt;br /&gt;There is a colour for each spice, for each pleasure. Le spezie contribuiscono al sapore degli elementi ma anche al sapore della vita. Rendono la vita piu intensa con un pizzico di emozione in piu, intensificando il piacere olfattivo e gustativo …Si entra in un spazio tutto tapezzatto di nero, oltre il profumo del cardamome che si diffonde nell'ambiente, la luce colorata e i LED&amp;nbsp; della lampada ZAFF con le sue forme morbide ci colpisce fortemente i sensi.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.aliki.info/instal/PageFrames.html" target="_blank"&gt;&lt;img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.aliki.info/images/thumbs/DSC01495.jpg" style="float: right; margin: 0px 10px;" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Il colore dominante e il giallo zafferano&amp;nbsp; Il zafferano e come tutte le spezie che ci conducono con le loro virtu ad un importante impato sui sensi-in quanto influiscono sull’essere con ripercussioni diverse sull’anima e l’umore. Come ne parla Omar Khayyam nella sua poesia che tratta spesso di edonismo, epicureismo… la pianta del zafferano ci porta al benessere.&lt;br /&gt;Stranamente tutti i colori si ritrovano nelle spezie…&lt;br /&gt;C’e un colore per ogni spezia, per ogni piacere. In&amp;nbsp;this installation of this Iranian-born designer and artist, we find all the fascination, light, and magic of the East. It is not by chance that&amp;nbsp;her installation&amp;nbsp;on show in the My Collection gallery in Verona&amp;nbsp;until July 31st is called &lt;b&gt;"&lt;i&gt;Saffron or spices&lt;/i&gt;":&lt;/b&gt; a meeting of colour, spice and light,&amp;nbsp;a combination that becomes illumination, sagacity, devotion, and well-being. In these rooms Aliki narrates and reveals&amp;nbsp;the&amp;nbsp;world, an itinerary that cannot ignore the meeting of different cultures.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;blockquote dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px;"&gt;"Aliki breathes colour and feels flavours and scents, she plays with the forces of natural elements and&amp;nbsp;with visual, tactile, and&amp;nbsp;olfactory perception in her joyful approach to artistic invention and creation." &lt;/blockquote&gt;These are the words of &lt;b&gt;Camilla Bertoni&lt;/b&gt; in her telling presentation essay of the show. She also underlines &lt;b&gt;the synaesthetic quality&lt;/b&gt; of the works and mentions various twentieth century artists who searched for points of contact between sound and colour, &lt;br /&gt;&lt;blockquote dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px;"&gt;"by building invisible bridges between feeling, sight, and hearing, as is attested to by the work of such artists as Laszlo Moholy Nagy, Luigi Veronesi, Vassily Kandinsky, Arnold Schoenberg, Marcel Duchamp, and Bruno Munari". &lt;/blockquote&gt;Such interests have taken on even greater significance in some of her recent works.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.aliki.info/images/DSC01509.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"&gt;&lt;img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.aliki.info/images/thumbs/DSC01509.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 5px 10px 5px 0px;" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;Aliki uses&amp;nbsp;saffron, with its intense yellow&amp;nbsp; both an aphrodisiac and a cleanser;pepper in all its varieties of red, black, green, and white, or cardamom and cumin. &lt;b&gt;These are spices that give a scent to the flower-light sculptures with LED lighting called “&lt;i&gt;ZAFF&lt;/i&gt;”.&amp;nbsp;A cristalized&amp;nbsp;rug in resin, a "&lt;i&gt;Road to the East&lt;/i&gt;" leads us into the dark room.We are&amp;nbsp;drawn&amp;nbsp;into Aliki's world, into her intimate&amp;nbsp;room, a world consisting of&amp;nbsp;persian olfactory&amp;nbsp;memories, of spices, but also of flowers in soft, coloured resin. This is a camera obscura, a place overflowing with metaphors for life.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.aliki.info/images/DSC01491.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"&gt;&lt;img alt="" border="0" src="http://www.aliki.info/images/thumbs/DSC01491.jpg" style="float: right; margin: 0px 10px;" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;b&gt;The climactic point of this sensorial/olfactory&amp;nbsp;installation , this "&lt;i&gt;inside&lt;/i&gt;" which is a closed&amp;nbsp;container&amp;nbsp;in wall to wall&amp;nbsp;black plastic, there bloom those&amp;nbsp; LED-lit flowers of which there were already traces earlier in her career. These are highly metaphoric images,resin sculptures that&amp;nbsp;also evoke the intimate meeting of the sexes, alluding to the seed that generates life, to fecundation. A functional led&amp;nbsp;-light inside the flower illuminates it and warms both the work and the surrounding environment increasing the scents even further. Here the synaesthetic aspect is underlined in a strong and purposeful way: there is a great sensuality enclosed in this camera obscura, one that is transformed into a paradise of the senses.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"&lt;i&gt;Saffron or spices.&lt;/i&gt;." informs us that Aliki&amp;nbsp; loves to convey the spice of life. She experiences&amp;nbsp; emotions with great intensity and transmits them to her art.
